"New Eyes" is a magnificent read for anyone. The concepts and ideas in this book helped me conquer obstacles from an 17 year addiction to opiates, physical and mental abuse, divorce, and the devastating loss of many love ones close to me.
I had tried everything from medication to rehab and never found any relief... Until something larger than myself lead me to Quantum and " New Eyes"....
I am "clean" from all drugs for multiple years, I no longer need my medication for my depression , and I've found the answers to all those questions I've had my entire life . "New Eyes" has become like my own personal outline to finding my higher self . This book is a must read for those interested how science confirms the existence of "the spirit". Steve makes Quantum Theory concepts every easy to understand and describes how they relate to the spirit. Love, love, love this book. Steve talks about all religions/concepts and how they are all saying the same spiritual concepts: "We all souls having a physical experience" for the purpose of obtaining Optimal Consciousness whether you know it or not. The book will not "offend" anyone but will further enlighten you on your spiritual journey on planet earth.

Great concepts, clearly presented

I really enjoyed this. I've read similar books attempting to combine scientific concepts with teachings found in some of the major religions and many of them, for me, were too confusing regarding the science or too abstract. The ideas presented in this book were easy to grasp and still thought provoking. I was easily able to apply each concept to my own life experiences and I'll be damned if I didn't feel a little more peace. Highly recommended!

Not for me/not my cup of tea

I did not enjoy the writing style and couldn't finish the book. There are spelling and grammar mistakes all around and it stood out regardless that English is my second language. What bothered me the most is that it is written like a narrative, in a childlike manner, jumping from the thoughts of one character to that of the next. Not much show, too much tell. When dialogue occurs, the writer will state the obvious. For instance: the character will say something, and the writer will follow with " she assured him," unnecessarily , because the dialogue already stated exactly that.

This was on my list of recommendations for a good historical read. This was definitely interesting. Ursula was given an ultimatum get married in a month or her father would pick a husband for her. So off to London she was sent. Trenton her family friend can't believe it he loves her and follows her. The story was well done a little slow and I didn't like how manipulative her father was.

As far back as 1998 John A. “Junior” Gotti declared himself a “civilian” and with his father’s permission withdrew from the Life. But over the next ten years the Justice Department refused to let that happen.

After he’d served nearly six and a half years and paid millions in fines, the DOJ came after him again with four trials and a tax prosecution—five, not four—attempts to send him away for life. One indictment even included a death penalty eligible crime. But in the end, Gotti Junior proved to be “The Teflon Son.”

To wage their relentless series of prosecutions the Feds used some fifteen Assistant U.S. Attorneys and more than a hundred cooperating witnesses, many of whom were violent felony offenders who had, in the aggregate, committed nearly a hundred murders and hundreds of assaults and robberies. Then, after testifying, those violent criminals soon got their freedom and many of them were released to the streets with the help and support of their government handlers.

AWESOME!!!

Finally we hear the other side of the story instead of what the media dishes out! Scary how the personal vendetta of Otto, and his outrageous misuse of power tore a family apart. He bribes others in a web of lies that is disproved time and time again. Gotti, on the other hand, can back up his statements with facts that are public record. Over-dramatic public displays of the FBI is a waste of of taxpayer money! Whether you are a fan of the Gotti family or not, this book gives a credible inside look of what goes on behind the scenes of the stuff they don't want you to know. Read this in one day because I couldn't put it down!

I could not stop reading: Very good

Growing up in Seattle, WA I have always enjoyed reading about The Gotti Family. I heard John Gotti Jr. wrote this book by himself and I thought it might be a poor read or poorly written. I was wrong. This book is very well written, it is very interesting and was hard to put down. John Jr. gives a lot of funny and memorable first person stories, names and really takes you along for the ride of what it was like being a Gotti during his father's hey day. It is a long book, very interesting and well worth $9.99. I got my money's worth with this book. Buy it.

No one else could of done a better job other than John Jr

Shadow of My Father by John A. Gotti is for sure a must read. I couldn't put the book down, looking at it from John Junior's point of view, as a father and son, who needed to tell the truth, and setting the record straight. No one else could of done a better job other than John Jr, who turned his life around for the better. Yet John Jr. never disrespected his father and people from the life. I come from Howard Beach, NY and know some of the Gotti's, they are wonderful people. Telling the story, being John Gotti's son, was done with a touch of class. John Jr. writes very memorable stories of the life, and of his father John Gotti Sr, in his hey day, and the way it really was.I am sure John A. Gotti's family are so proud of him, and so am I . A job well done, I highly recommend this book.

Research in Mahayana sutras is a slow and painstaking process. Typically, it involves a careful study of multiple versions of individual texts, composed in different languages (Sanskrit, Chinese and Tibetan) as well as immersion in the voluminous but largely unchartered corpus of canonical literature preserved in the bKa' 'gyur and the Chinese `Tripi[tdotu ]aka'. Years may easily go by without any noteworthy publication. Thus, when a new book appears, scholarly expectation tends to be high. Jan Nattier's study of the Ugrapariprccha is no exception. Eagerly awaited among colleagues for its research on early Mahayana Buddhism - the Ugrapariprccha is widely recognised to rank among the first Mahayana sutras - Nattier's work promised to dispel at least some of the mist that continues to cloud this ill-understood period. Even though hers is not the first study and translation of the Ugrapariprccha (Nancy Schuster wrote her PhD dissertation on this text, 1976), Nattier managed to produce a remarkable, original piece of scholarship that brims with thought-provoking ideas about the formation of the Mahayana, persuasive refutations of old-seated misconceptions, well-conceived approaches to textual interpretation and a competently crafted translation of the Chinese and Tibetan versions. In short, it is a book that needs to be taken seriously.

I really like this book. It is a great presentation
of life in a Buddhist Community circa 100 CE.
Extremely well researched. As has been said, old and
well accepted theories of the Mahayana vs Theravada
are exposed with well placed arguments and suggestions.
That is the main focus of this book, more factual History.
By no means dry or boring imho. The US published book
is of great quality and production, more than a fair price.
Although this could and maybe is used as a Text book,
unlike many I have had to read, this does not come off
as a stuffy, self congratulatory work.
Imho, the book is not so much a revelation of a Sutra as the in depth study
of It's origin and the actual climate, if you will, of the Community
in which this movement manifested. Unique in that sense of it's arena of focus and study.

Decent information but flawed

The information presented here is decent, but it's too reliant on prejudices and assumptions. That is to say, it presumes a supposed dichotomy between monastic groups and Mahayana teachings, and presents Mahayana as an "embattled minority" within monasteries, despite offering insufficient evidence to support that claim. The information about the Ugradatta Pariprccha is certainly valuable information, but it's stretched too far. We have to remember that this is simply one text out of hundreds, and it's an atypical text at that. To assume that it is representative of "early Mahayana," whatever that might entail, ignores the complex and multifaceted history of the subject. In one place it may have been mainstream, and in another it may have been marginalized. The conflicts we see reflected in the texts may be between monastic groups rather than within monastic groups, etc. The author is clearly knowledgeable and intelligent, but the downfall of this book is that it takes the narrow perspective. The author wants the subject to be simple and easy to understand, when clearly it is not. In the end, the reader doesn't get much closer to the truth of the matter.

I recommend this to anyone interested in breaking the gridlock in Washington for it's fresh approach and vocabulary about our market economy. It combines many of the things a liberal would want at the same time addressing many of the things conservatives talk about. I can also recommend it as an interesting study in traditional Jewish thinking which will likely surprise some Jewish and gentile readers at the same time.

Smells like Pirates one of the best books I've ever read.

I really like how the book gets people who have no idea about treasure hunting to think about it a little. I liked that the book wasn't written only for those that enjoy and understand treasure hunting. I thought there was a good blend of humor, action and a lot of different stuff. I'm hoping the next book is 'Smells Like Temples'. I hope that this review was helpful. A must read!

Not for the faint of heart...but read it just the same!

I loved the writing and I felt as if I were there among the four travelers who get in over their heads as they explore the wilds of the rural south. I am not a huge fan of pages upon pages of description; however, author Dickey (even in his copious descriptions) kept his focus and I stayed focused along with him. I must say the book obviously brought back memories of the film, which I saw when I was 20. The movie was different--to say the least--from the era of films I deeply cherish (those being from the 1930s and 1940s). I have never looked at "walking in the woods" in the same way since. The book is part of Time's Greatest Books (1923-2005) list and Deliverance is #30 in the books I've read from this list--so I'm almost 1/3 of the way through my goal of reading all 100. Although I highly recommend this book, it is definitely not for the faint of heart or the squeamish of stomach. Read it at your own risk and even if it, at times, it frightens you, disgusts you or leaves you in turmoil...read it anyway. It's excellently & tightly written.

Gripping, tense, adventure story.

I watched the movie before reading the book and since the movie is such a hard act to follow, I really think the book stands up well to comparison. The movie is such a faithful reproduction of the book that there really were no surprises when reading this, even 25 years later. As a result, as action-packed as the events described are, the reading experience became a little flat.
Most everyone knows the story, and the plot is well described in these reviews. I would just say that the writing is stark, realistic and as gritty as one could wish for. I found the descriptions of Ed's climb up the rockface and setting for the later ambush just a little too esoteric and lyrical for my taste. Too "arty-crafty" if you like. Although I do admit that the likely reason for this is that the author is probably way too intelligent for me to appreciate. Much better in my opinion are the dialogues between the characters and the thought processes behind their responses to the serious moral dilemmas they find themselves in.
Have to admit that all the time I was reading this book I was visualising the faces of the characters from the movie, so well cast is the movie.
Can't say that reading this book is a particularly enjoyable experience, but a worthwhile experience it certainly is!

An NYU Professor recommended it to me for it's Poetry

Most people think it's crazy that one of my favorite books of all times is Deliverance. I was at NYU for a poetry reading when I talked with a professor there about my writing. I told hime I was trying to incorporate my poetry into the book I was writing. He smiled and asked if I read Deliverance. I said no, but saw the movie. He told me that the writer was a poet and he wrote the book with a lot of poetry and symbolism. The movie didn't reflect that and so I bought the book.
I have read it many times. It is one of the most well written books I have ever read. It takes you inside these people and really opens up your imagination. Enjoy!
