Although this is a "very short" introduction, this book is packed with information about children's literature. Even though I have to read it for school, I couldn't put it down, because it was quite interesting. I have to write an informative essay about children's literature for English class. Hopefully, I will get a good grade on it. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about children's literature, its history, and become knowledgable on the topic.

After being honorably discharged as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, David Achord found his true calling in law enforcement. His twenty-five-year career included stints with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. David is the author of the Zombie Rules series.

Easy and engaging read which runs out of puff towards the end

Picks up where Book One leaves off. Three Stars equals a Satisfactory rating with all the strengths of the first book carried over but with a discernible fall off in impact in the final third of the present work.

Why I took two stars off:
1. Zach develops more of a god-complex as though he's The One with all the answers to rebuilding civilization. Some may approve. (The ending where everyone goes round the table giving Zach the Big Stroke is so particularly cringeworthy it's almost satire.)
2. A significant increase in the number of characters means that the overall story line begins to soften and bottom out from about half-way and becomes noticeably once-over-lightly in the final third of the book. The final section of the book is very rushed and superficial as though a deadline was looming and the remaining word budget fast evaporating.
3. The way all the nubile women are made to compete for Zach's sexual favors is overdone. Interesting too how the author focuses on the male characters and stays generally away from developing (or projecting into) the females...a pity.
4. Once the zeds and Bad Guys are out of the way and sustainable supplies are generally sorted there's actually little left to do except pad the story out with soap opera sidelines like finding Andie a partner and making lone trips across country and running into random survivors. Interesting but not gripping...more could have been made of the "evolving" zeds.
5. Rowdy is a complete joke. A cartoon character who should never have been retained. Irritating...really irritating.

All of the above are personal carping peeves...of course. However I think you'll find the central story does progressively droop as the author rolls out more and more extra characters. This is a classic faux pas in zombie novels. In my opinion the ideal number for an action yarn of this type is a core cast of four central characters...everyone else should be kept as dress extras.

Setting aside the above criticisms, there's a lot to like in Z14 and it's an excellent value-for-money page turner. You need to buy both books in order to follow the overall story. Would I buy Book Three? Yes, No question.

You lost me at teenage threesome.

(Audiobook review) Yup, you read that correctly. When there's a teenage threesome involved in a very poorly written book, that's when I call it quits. Being a parent of a teenager, the last thing I want to experience is an author living out his high school fantasies of having the scorned ex, who dumped him for the star jock and humiliated him publicly, beg for his affections now and partake in an every day threesome lifestyle. Even worse, I think the girls are hinting at a 4th! What is this?......the beginning of Sister Wives for teenagers? YUCK!
I just can't see how these books are rated so highly. I read book 1, rated it 2 stars, and went ahead and tried book 2, since it was free from the library. I also have book 3, free from the library, but since I couldn't even finish #2, I will not continue.
Another thing that was just ridiculous about this book, was the main bad guy. (Trying to not give spoilers) This guy is a white supremacist, determined to dominate and rule, but the main character considers him a father figure? Huh? Zach is actually coming up with plans, teaching him how to bring in doctors, dentists, resourceful people, etc. to help build his kingdom, or whatever you want to call it. The last doctor this guy came across, he broke everyone of his wife's fingers, trying to force him into complying and working for him. Now Zach is helping him come up with plans to get doctors to help him? This guy threatened and tormented the black guy, threatening to kill his wife and kids, just because they were not white. Talking out loud with your soldiers, contemplating on how you're going to kill these black people because of their race (N word used in the book) IS TORTURE! But Zach convinces the black family to HELP the guy, to help build his supremacy? What?
How in the world are these books rated so highly? The author is living out his teenage fantasies through Zach. I don't believe he's had any real interaction with the opposite sex since high school, because he has no idea how women act or speak. The main character, who's a teenager, has a God complex, which got world's worse in this book, all women of all ages lust for him, all men want to be him and idolize him, everyone seeks his wisdom and knowledge, even people 3 & 4 times his age......even seasoned military officers seek and take Zach's advise on military tactics! What in the world?!?! It's just too much for me.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention.......there's even LESS zombie action in this book than book #1. It's like after 1, 2 or 3 hours of book (it's an 11 hour audiobook) the author would remember that this is a zombie book and would write one into it. "I saw something through the store window. It was a zombie. I shot it." And of course, with Zach having God like abilities, he could pull this sniper like shot off at 500 feet.
Also, as in book 1, the people are eating better than before the apocalypse! It's steak, eggs, chicken and fresh vegetables every single day. There's so many steaks that they're handing them out for free on the side of the road.

Got carried away with the protagonist

Author got a little carried away with Zach. He goes from a high school kid one year to a battle tasted sf type operator the next. A little bit annoying since I have a military background, just doesn't happen that way. Also sensed a little anti military vibe going on since most of the soldiers were either dirt bags or morons and Zach had to take them in and train them himself. Also beating up a SWAT guy was pretty farfetched. Guess that's why it's fiction

Fascinating information for Hitchcock fans!

I am a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock. In my opinion he was the greatest film director and his movies provide untold hours of enjoyment. One reason I particularly admire Hitchcock's films is that they can be watched repeatedly without losing their charm. I'll actually go further by saying they improve with repeated viewings. I can't think of any other set of films where this seems to be the case. One of the reasons is that the films are beautifully crafted on so many levels: plot, acting, cinematography, music, locations. One area that hasn't received enough attention is Hitchcock's art direction, particularly the use of architecture in his films. This excellent book fills that niche perfectly. The book is very well written and is loaded with interesting information, photos, and insights. The knowledge provided by this book serves to increase appreciation and enjoyment of the Master's films even more. Highly recommended.

Although I have been a maker since before the word was invented, and I already knew a great deal of what is in this book, I find it a delightful compilation of the most useful tools and how to use them correctly. It even reminded me of a few things I had learned once but had since forgotten. I bought a kindle copy, and then invested in another print copy to keep in our nascent makerspace for people to refer to and help them imagine what they might be able to do, given the right tools (in a nutshell... almost anything!)

This in not a great book, but it is a pleasant read with a few good ideas. My shop is more machine with a LITTLE tech. We have now removed the tech from the machine shop and setting up in a clean room. So the book earned it's keep and paid for itself.

I have subscribed to Make magazine since its inception and have been involved in numerous excursions into robot building. This book provides the best one-stop reference I have ever seen. The author provides detailed explanations of tools (great ideas for presents) and concentrates on their function and how you would correctly use them. As an example, I never knew that the handle color of metal shears actually indicates the type of cut they were designed for (now I know why I had a hard time making a straight cut with my shears).

Beyond basic tools, the book also covers advanced equipment like 3D printers and laser cutters. How they work, how to service them, how to program them and sample projects to try. Electronics, from the basics of soldering to more advanced concepts like circuit board design, are covered in considerable depth. At the end of the book there is an entire section dedicated to moving STEM related projects into the classroom.

Well balanced, this book should appeal to seasoned makers who want a solid reference to turn to. It should also appeal to anyone who wants to try their hand at designing or making the type of projects found in Make magazine. Finally, if you are setting up a Makerspace in your school, business, or if you're lucky enough, your basement or garage this book is absolutely required.

A heartwarming story of self-discovery and healing

First, I just want to say how beautiful the cover is. I found it fascinating and once I saw it, I had to know if the serenity of the cover and on the man's face would be portrayed as such in the book and, to my greatest relief, it was.

The blurb does a pretty good job of explaining the situations within the story so I don't think it's necessary to reiterate it especially without giving away too many spoilers. With that said, the author did a great job of conveying the theory that no matter what you think, in the end, it's your heart that will decide on who you love and that we should accept that fact, be open to that fact and embrace that fact. This story proved to be an incredible journey about self-discovery and healing, courage and acceptance.

One thing I really loved about this book was how different Milo and Scott were. Milo wasn't a closeted gay Dom like some characters turn out to be in BDSM, and in fact he felt uncomfortable at just thinking of hurting Scott in any way, so the fact he couldn't satisfy Scott like he wanted was an extreme conflict. His pleasure was derived from Scott's pleasure but overall, Milo was such a sweet, loving individual for someone so young. He was there to help Scott, to cherish him but he wasn't there to solve Scott's problems for him... he was there to solve Scott's problems with him. Scott was just the right amount of emotionally damaged to make it believable. Being a submissive, he needs a firm hand, someone to guide him when he can't do it himself but more than that, he loves to please someone in the most simplest of ways even if it's by just knowing how much they'd appreciate their morning coffee when they get into work. It was heartbreaking seeing him fall apart but it was heartwarming to see Milo catch him and know exactly what Scott needed at any given time but what made this story especially great for me was how well I connected with the characters. I felt what they felt, experienced what they experienced and that right there made the book very special to me.

The story deals with a lot of conflicts from divorce to loss to discovery to compromise. While a lot happens, it doesn't seem rushed. The author did a great job of incorporating just the right amount of emotions to make the scene feel real but without making them seem abrupt or rushed. I think one of the main messages within the story is that love is built on compromise and the heart wants what it wants. Neither Scott nor Milo were gay nor liked the same sex level but they both compromised and met in the middle to find a successful way of living that was satisfying to both of them. I won't go on and say this book was perfect because it's not. In some aspects, the acceptance level was too unrealistic to be believable especially put into context with the problems some people had originally but beyond that, this story was a captivatingly beautiful read.

In the end, I truly loved the book, warts and all. I'm already planning to order it in paperback because I loved it so much. It's angsty but not too angsty. Sweet but not overly so. It's a fascinating story that covers multiple issues but a story the author handled with grace where the friendship and subsequent love showed through the pages. An exceptional read based on my subjective opinion, of course ;)

Falling Into Place is more than a story, it's a journey.

A decidedly not-gay gay romance, Falling Into Place is an unexpected offering. The combination of mostly het characters threw me off initially but worked in the end. Scott Mitchell is the heart and soul of this story. Without his character, none of it would hold together. He's emotionally complicated and drew my heart into his world from the very beginning. I think that most people who've had depression touch their lives will be able to identify with Scott and his family in some way. Falling Into Place is more than a story, it's a journey of hope and healing.
