About the Author
James Rachels, the distinguished American moral philosopher, was born in Columbus, Georgia, graduating from Mercer University in Macon in 1962. He received his Ph.D. in 1967 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He taught at the University of Richmond, New York University, the University of Miami, Duke University, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he spent the last twenty-six years of his career. 1971 saw the publication of Rachels’ groundbreaking textbook Moral Problems, which ignited the movement in America away from teaching ethical theory towards teaching concrete practical issues. Moral Problems sold 100,000 copies over three editions. In 1975, Rachels wrote “Active and Passive Euthanasia,” arguing that the distinction so important in the law between killing and letting die has no rational basis. Originally appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine, this essay has been reprinted roughly 300 times and is a staple of undergraduate education. The End of Life (1986) was about the morality of killing and the value of life. Created from Animals (1990) argued that a Darwinian world-view has widespread philosophical implications, including drastic implications for our treatment of nonhuman animals. Can Ethics Provide Answers? (1997) was Rachels’ first collection of papers (others are expected posthumously). Rachels’ McGraw-Hill textbook, The Elements of Moral Philosophy, is now in its fourth edition and is easily the best-selling book of its kind. Over his career, Rachels wrote 5 books and 85 essays, edited 7 books and gave about 275 professional lectures. His work has been translated into Dutch, Italian, Japanese, and Serbo-Croatian. James Rachels is widely admired as a stylist, as his prose is remarkably free of jargon and clutter. A major theme in his work is that reason can resolve difficult moral issues. He has given reasons for moral vegetarianism and animal rights, for affirmative action (including quotas), for the humanitarian use of euthanasia, and for the idea that parents owe as much moral consideration to other people’s children as they do to their own. James Rachels died of cancer on September 5th, 2003, in Birmingham, Alabama.

STUART RACHELS is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Alabama. He has revised several of James Rachels’ books, including Problems from Philosophy (second edition, 2009) and The Right Thing to Do (fifth edition, 2010), which is the companion anthology to this book. Good Book for Beginners

I am not widely read in ethics or philosophy in general. I took an introductory philosophy course as an undergrad and did not return to studying ethics until graduate school, which is where I came into contact with this book. For me, as a novice in ethics, I found Rachels' text enlightening. He neither dwells on theory too long nor dabbles too much in case studies. He provides enough to give you a foundational understanding of the big theories in ethics. Sure, there are probably holes in the material and you probably won't be able to dazzle others with your sudden powers of ethical thought, but it does get you to think about ethics in ways that are almost exciting. Compared to the other textbooks I had in my ethics class, this was a joy to read. The price, as others have said, is too high. But if you have to study it in class, you can't really get around that anyway.

Excellent Book for College Undergraduates & Beginners by Small Town Lawyer "clarence"

This Rachels'(father and son) book has been around since 1986 when the first edition was published by Random House. Few textbooks last more than 25 years. Virtually all of the ones I am familiar with have an excellent quality that enables them to endure. Sometimes good books do not last; but seldom do bad books persist in the college textbook market. This book is well written and well-organized. Materials are developed in a logical and helpful manner. The case illustrations are germain and are clear. I have taught out of three different editions of this book at four universities over a span of 22 years; and consistently, the majority of students who studied this book in my classes found this textbook one of the best ones available. In my career, I worked in publishing; I was an editor at various journals; and I published and/or edited four different books. My students and I liked this one. It does an excellent job of explaining the development of moral philosophy to undergrads who are non-philosophy majors.

This is the main book we use in my Introduction to Ethics class at the University of Kansas and it does a very good job at disproving the 4 common "failed" ethical theories that most people know about and provides an understandable explanation of the viable ethical theories today such as Utilitarianism and Social Contract Theory. It does not read like a textbook, it is very captivating and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in a general understanding of ethical theory.

About the Series Monographs focuses on an individual type of aircraft. Each monograph contains descriptions of the aircraft’s origin, its variants and combat history. Each volume includes several hundred archive photographs, technical scale drawings and colour profile artwork. Each book also has free extras for modelers, with decals and masking foil.

Some good content but a lot of useless info.,

The technical info (drawings mainly) are great but the "service history" is noting more than a rambling mess of stories about pilots and how they were captured, marched half naked, fed bread by locals and other nonsense that has nothing to do with the aircraft's service. Next time, tell relevant stories about the history or leave it out and charge less,

This book is essentially a reprint with minor changes. Kagero is trying to double dip.

This is the 60th book (No. 3060) in Kagero's Monographs series. The book is an 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", square bound, 144 page card cover. The book is devoted to the Dornier Do 17/Do 215, one of three bombers the Luftwaffe started WWII with and the only one of the three that didn't serve to war's end.

The book breaks down into three parts. The first 100 pages are devoted to the background, design, development, and service history of the aircraft. The next 32 pages feature very high quality line drawings primarily in 1/72nd scale but with some fittings drawn bigger. There are a few pages of drawings in 1/96th scale detailing external differences between models. Color profiles and a few plans take up the remainder of the book and the rear cover.

All is excellent and well worth the asking price but I can only award three stars because of Kagero's occasional practice of double dipping (enticing the consumer to buy the same material twice) as in this case.

Seven years ago Kagero published a Do17/Do 215 book in this same series (it was number 39) with the same author. Are there major differences, justifying a new volume in the series? Sadly, no.

The differences are minor. There is a new cover painting. The current volume does not have the masking foil the original did. The text in the current volume is spread over 100 pages instead of the 92 of the original. This permits some additional photos to be added and in fact some photos have been reproduced at a smaller size to squeeze in some more. The drawings are identical but in the current book the Polish captions have been removed leaving only English. The are three additional pages of color profiles and as with the drawings the Polish captions have been removed.

In conclusion, I can only recommend this book if one doesn't already own the original in which case I highly recommend it. If one does own the original there is little point beyond obsessive completism (which I succumb to more often than I would like) to get this newer edition.

One of the best of this series. Overdue subject on WWII. Lots of black and white photos and color profiles are numerous and excellent. Liked description of use in WWII.

I love this product. It is a fun, fast portable way to review pharmacotherapy 238 cards with vignettes and questions! LANGE Pharmacotherapy Flash Cards feature 300 cards that review every disorder covered on the NAPLEX. Vignettes (profiles) are presented on one side of the card along with questions about a drug, drug classes, adverse effects, and monitoring parameters with answers appearing on the flip side. These 300 cards offer concise yet comprehensive coverage of pharmacotherapy and are an outstanding introduction to the subject.

All cards follow a consistent design so one can quickly and easily go through the deck for a fast, efficient review. I like that the profiles are divided by topic. So, if I wanted to study antibiotics, I got the 24 profiles that focus more in antibiotics and so on.

The Content You Need to Ace the NAPLEX: This is a good review or a perfect complement after you have study 2 times APhA or RxPrep book. The product is pretty good, but there is no way 238 flash cards can cover all the necessary topics. It probably would be more beneficial for a license exam as oppose to a therapeutics exam in third year. For example, the renal section had eight flash cards. My exam had 52 case question with way way more information than was on these cards. Nothing suffices for class and power points.
